FAQ

General

  • What does online check in mean?
Airlines generally allow their passengers to check in between 12 and 24 hours previous to the scheduled departure time. This way, passengers communicate to the airline that the flight will actually be taken. Furthermore, many airlines enable their passengers to choose their preferred seats during online check-in, as well as sometimes the booking of additional services such as plane meals or additional pieces of luggage.
An online check-in can be done by passengers by providing the required personal details during online registration. Upon completion of the check-in, the airline issues the boarding pass(es) via email or per download.
Checking in online reduces time prior to departure, since one can directly go to the security check when arriving at the airport, in case the passenger travels with hand luggage. For bigger pieces of luggage it is more and more common by airlines to allow passengers to check in their luggage at so called “bag-drop off counters”. This considerably reduces time spent for waiting in airport cues.
  • Why 1Checkin, and how does it work?
1Checkin does all the steps required for online check-in automatically for you, and therefore saves you time, including time spent at the check-in counter at the airport. Additionally, you experience the comfort to receiving your boarding pass(es) on your phone via email as soon as online check-in opens at the respective airline.
First, we need to receive your booking confirmation. You can forward it to en@1check.in. Our system will confirm and inform you about the planned check-in date/time. Your check-in will automatically start as soon as the function opens on the airline homepage. Furthermore, If provided by the airline, our system selects your seat based on the preferences you set within your personal account. Also, it enables you to always sit together with your friends or travel partners. Finally, we will notify you and send you your boarding pass(es) via email.
You create your account and provide the necessary data just once, no need to ever type it in on any airline webpage ever again.
  • Can I check-in additional or other passengers as well?
Yes. Our service lets you check in up to 9 passengers at once. Furthermore, we will try to allocate seats according to all preferences, so families or groups of friends can sit together.
  • What about my personal details?
We operate and store any personal passenger information on certified secured servers, and act in accordance to the data protection regulations. You can further consult our privacy policy.

Booking Reference (PNR)

  • How to recognise your booking reference (PNR) on your booking confirmation.
The booking reference usually consists of a combination of 5-6 letters/digits. If you book your ticket via an agency, the confirmation code is usually the same. You can usually find an indication about the airline next to the booking reference.
  • The system says that I provided the wrong booking reference (number). What should I do?
Make sure that you entered the booking reference/number. The booking reference or booking number (PNR) is a combination of 6 capital letters and numbers. It is rare to find booking references consisting of 5 or 7 characters (e.g. EasyJet).

Check if there are any other numbers on the ticket. Travel agencies usually issue tickets through global agencies, therefore sometimes there are two or even three booking numbers on tickets. To check-in via 1Checkin, the following options are suitable: Booking reference of the airline. Usually the name of the company or the "airline code" is written nearby. Global agency reference number. Nearby written may be the name of one out of four such agencies: Amadeus, Galileo, Saber, Sirena-travel.

If you do not want to deal with all those numbers, just send the booking confirmation to en@1check.in and the system will select the correct number automatically.

Start the check-in again. You can do that in your account by selecting the flight you want to check-in. There you can change the booking reference.

If you only see a travel agent's booking number on the ticket, then contact the agency about the booking reference for online registration. If you fly on a charter flight, then, perhaps, a ticket for the plane on which you can check-in for the flight will be sent to you 1 to 2 days before departure.

  • What is the difference between booking reference (PNR) and electronic ticket number?
The booking reference or PNR is usually a combination of 6 capital letters and numbers. It is rare to find it with five (S7) or seven (EasyJet) characters.
On the other hand, the number of the electronic ticket (e-ticket number) consists of 13 digits. The first three figures are often separated, because they designate the airline code. The last one or two digits always refer to the passenger. This is the big difference compared to the booking reference number: The booking reference can act for numerous passengers if you bought the ticket together. Therefore, if you check-in via 1Checkin, we recommend to always enter e-tickets for all the passengers you want to check-in.
Example of an electronic ticket: 016-1246781231.

E-ticket number

  • What is an e-ticket number?

The electronic ticket number (e-ticket number) consists of 13 digits. The first three figures are often separated, because they depict the airline code. The last one or two digits always refer to the passenger. This is the main difference compared to the booking reference: This is the big difference compared to the booking reference number: The booking reference can act for numerous passengers if you bought the ticket together. Contrary to that, the electronic ticket number is individual for every passenger.

We recommend to always enter the e-ticket numbers for all passengers you want to check-in. Example of an electronic ticket number: 016-1246781231.

  • Is it enough to enter just one e-ticket number for several passengers?
No. The electronic ticket number is individual for each passenger, even if you bought the ticket together. In order to register several passengers, you have to provide each passenger’s electronic ticket numbers.

Check-in not successful

  • Sometimes it can happen that an online check-in can not be completed successfully. This can be due to one of the following reasons:
    • Incorrect or insufficient information e.g. about the passenger or about the booking reference on the booking confirmation. In this case our system will ask you to provide necessary details or e.g. your electronic ticket number.
    • Online check-in already expired. This happens when a user forwards the booking confirmation too late. Many airlines close the online check-in function at some specific time before departure. The passenger then has to go to the check-in counter at the airport in order to receive the boarding pass.
    • Some airlines do not provide their passengers the possibility to check-in online beforehand.
